At the risk of revolt, let me get this out of the way up front: This is Dylan here subbing for Dave again.

Last time I only got a medium amount of hate mail requesting their favorite newsletter writer back, and don’t worry, he’ll be back next month. For this one, you have me. A few things to dive into today, starting with how I used Mux Robots to impress my family.

I’ve had this nagging problem in the back of my head for months now. Last Thanksgiving my Dad gave me a hard drive with 500GB of raw videos that were digitized from old VHS tapes.

Read my full story here. The TL;DR is I pointed Claude Code at the video archive and said:

> Put all these videos into Mux, use Mux Robots to understand them, and then create a YouTube-like experience so that every memory from this archive is extracted into its own video with titles, descriptions, chapters, transcripts and tags. Make no mistakes.

Well, it wasn’t quite that easy, but you get the idea. After a few iterations, the output was exceptional, and my family has already spent dozens of hours watching these old videos. Read the article to see how I did it.

    What we've been up to

      Content Moderation 1B

If you have users uploading random videos, this one-click content moderation dashboard — powered by Mux Robots — is ready to deploy.

      Shaaaare My Screeeen@2x

Dave made a MacOS screen recorder and connected it to Claude Code via a local MCP.

      Slop social tutorial

A lot of customers want to build “a feed like TikTok” — so Josh showed us how to do just that in this video with Mux and React Native.

      Generate a video with fal

Josh created a video walking through using Fal.ai to do AI video generation and send those videos to Mux for encoding, storage, and delivery.

      React component lifecycle update

Josh dug into the new React Activity component, which works really well when building video UIs.

      Pogs make a comeback

This is some of the most fun swag we’ve ever made. Most of the folks at Mux are old enough to know what Pogs are. And the rest, well, now they know.

The pack features a few of our favorite dev tool companies, including: Vercel, TwelveLabs, Neon, Resend, Sentry, Syntax, Replit, and Exe.dev.

If you’ll be at CascadiaJS, pull up to our Pogs tournament at the Day 1 mixer to secure one of our Pogs packs and maybe win a Sonos speaker.

Plus, Dar will be giving a talk on what can happen when you choose the wrong abstraction.

          varsity jacket

Shoutout to Ethel and Sergiy for winning "Best use of Mux + AI" at the Frontier Tech Week Hackathon — and a limited-release Mux varsity jacket.

Our Dev tools and our AI overlords meet up at our San Francisco HQ with heavy-hitter speakers from Baseten, Vercel, exe.dev, Neon and Mux!

That’s all I have for May, we’ll see you in June! If you haven’t tried Mux Robots yet, and you have some old videos lying around, consider throwing them in there, I think you’ll have fun.

Plus, Mux Robots is still free during the technical preview through June 15, so there’s no better time than now to kick the tyres with it!

          Until next issue,

          Dylan and the Mux folks
